According to the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Canadian Chronic Disease Surveillance System in any given year, 1 in 5 Canadians experiences a mental illness or addiction problem. More than 6.7 million people in Canada are living with a mental health problem or illness today.
People in their early and prime working years are among the hardest hit by mental health problems and illnesses.
About 21.4% of the working population in Canada currently experience mental health problems and illnesses, which can affect their productivity.
Mental health problems and illnesses account for approximately 30% of short – and long-term disability claims and are rated one of the top three drivers of such claims by more than 80% of Canadian employers.
Practices such as Mindfulness meditation can act as preventative measures against building stress. It can help you maintain a perfect balance between work and living life to the fullest.
These exercises can help you get balance in life, help you become more flexible (both mentally and physically) and help you deal with the constant changes of the 21st Century. If you are unsure how to meditate, Register Now for this International Meditation for Mental Health Well-being Summit 2025!
Have you ever felt overwhelmed at Work? Too many tasks and deadlines that keep you on the roll? Are you often plagued with the feeling of being too busy, overwhelmed, or stressed? Do you have trouble finding time to do the things you really want and need to do?
If you answered yes to these questions, you may need a lesson or two in Work life balance. We have different ways to relate to stress at work or school. I invite you to ask yourself;
• How many hours each week do you usually spend at work/university or with family/friends having fun, relaxing, or self-reflecting?
• How many hours do you spend texting, tweeting, emailing, posting to social media, and browsing the net or apps? • Are you truly present in each moment as life unfolds?
• Do you feel deeply fulfilled, joyful, and intimately in love with your life?
Overloaded schedules, and high demands often keep us incredibly busy and stressed. It seems paradoxical to meet both the demands and goals of our work and personal life. To balance our expectations, our career goals, while also living a deeply fulfilling and happy life can be challenging. Specifically, women suffer from those competing demands. To keep us healthy and in the “green zone” depends how we relate to stress and life as a whole. We now spend an average of 47 hours a week at our jobs, and being digitally connected 24-7 can make us feel like we never quite get to leave.
With emails, mobile phones, the web, and texting, work has completely bled into our home lives. How can we bring life back into balance without sacrificing success in the increasingly demanding workplace? Can practicing Mindful Meditation help?
Mindfulness Meditation can be used as a tool to manage our well-being and mental health. Some people call mental health ‘emotional health’ or ‘well-being’. We all have times when we feel down, stressed, or frightened; most of the time those feelings pass, but sometimes they develop into a more serious problem, and this could happen to any one of us. It’s important to maintain our mental health but being mentally healthy doesn’t just mean that we don’t have a mental health problem. With good mental health, we can:
• Make the most of our potential
• Cope with life
• Play a full part in our family, workplace, community and among friends
You can expect to:
Skills and practices to manage depression, anxiety and prevent relapse. By learning to identify the triggers and symptoms of anxiety and depression, participants can effectively address these issues as they arise in everyday life.
